Off topic, shaft vs bearing ID size

I am trying to fit a 30 mm ID bearing on a 1 3/16ths shaft. I believe the 30 mm is 1.181 inches and the 1 3/16ths shaft is 1.1875 inches. I just want a snug fit, not an impossible one. How much does the shaft need to be turned down?
Thanks for reading.

Mornin Jimer, OK, here is a quick way to convert mm to english. 30 mm x .03937 = 1.1811. You had this figured out allready but thought I would post it for you.

Very seldom is there much of an interference fit between the shaft OD and the inner bearing race. Usually this is a line to line fit or just slightly smaller on the shaft OD. With that being said, you would need to have .0065 removed from the shaft to accomodate your 1.1811 inner race.

Hope this helps!

The shaft should be machined to 1.182" to 1.1825".
Your local machine shop can determine what the shaft needs to be machined to, after be measures the bearing diameter. They will have the micrometers too. Hal

If you know someone who is a machinist, he may have a machinist handbbok, which will give you the info for the proper clearances for the application. Or if you know someone who is an engineer, he may be able to help. Different applications will have different tolerances. The i.d. tolerances I work with, for bearings, is .0004. The o. d. of the bearing will fit in a bore with .0006. And that will be different for other applications as well.

Unless it is something needing a TIGHT press fit, an interference fit of .001" to .002" should do the job.
