240U hydraulic questions

I just bought this 240 IH, I'm guessing 60'ish model, The hydraulics work fine as long as there is no load front or rear(has loader) There is an aluminum reservoir on the loader bracket, is this for all the hydraulics? Or is there another location, I did a search of this forum, I read about a pipe plug on the left side of the tractor?

The loader is made of flat stock steel 1" thick or so, It looks to be made for the tractor not homemade. Is this right?

Also where would be the best place to get a value on the tractor, I'm thinking of restoring the tractor sheet metals very straight, other than a couple grill pieces.

Thanks JW

I'm not sure about the hydraulics, I have a small pump mounted under the distributor at the front of the tractor, there is a reservoir in front of that, I think that is for motor oil? The hydraulics front and rear act the same, like they run from the same system. I thought this tractor may have power steering but if so it has yet to work, Would there be steering cylinders underneath for this or hows it work? How would I know about the power steering? everything in the front is pretty close to the hood, so I can't see much up there.

The loader hydraulics are controlled by 2 levers that come out of the hood, with large valve body underneath, Is there a pop-off valve on this thing somewhere, or is this a different set-up?

I suppose I need to get a manual for this thing, but some manuals do not have all the info I want, I want a good manual with hydraulics to clutches. Know of any?

Thanks for any help, I could get some pics and post this evening, if you need a specific pic let me know and I post it.

The 240s were built 1958-62.

The loader with 1" thick plate construction may be an IH No. 50. As for the hydraulics, do you have a separate pump mounted to the front of the tractor or is it using the tractor hydraulics? Does it have power steering? The hydraulic pump mounted on the engine doesn't have the capacity to efficiently operate the power steering, hitch and loader. The reservoir for the tractor hydraulics is in the clutch housing. The fill plug is about 1-1/4" hex on the top of the clutch housing.
Value is dependent on what two fools can agree on. A restored 240U with loader could range from about $2000-4000.
I have a 240U with a No. 50 loader. If yo have more questions kmokgm@a-m-u.net
