Came home from work with a new mig welder and a snap on hand held sand blaster about thirty minutes ago.The wife just left for work and boy was she mad.She has just recently started back to work after being a stay at home mom for the last eight years and in that time I haven't purchased anything big as far as tools are concerned simply couldnt afford it. Hope she gets over it soon. I informed her that she would have to start making her own car payment, and that didnt go over real good.Shes been working again for almost five months and she has been blowing all her money since she has always had my check to pay all the bills with she assumed that she would have no financial duties. Just gave her a reality check I think. All the same shes mad as he!! Give me some advice guys did I do wrong or does she just need to relax? Hope to hear from you River Bottom Farmer

Hey River Bottom:
There"s a lot of advice here, some not worth taking. You have to decide if you really want to live together. If so you have to "live together" and that means give and take. No sneeky deals! Perhaps you need to work on welding the relationship before you plunge into welding your tractor.

What you really need to do is have about 4 or 5 kids.

I bought a 2005 Harley Ultra Classic with 650 miles, last week. Wife was with me and said it was a good deal, buy it. After we got home she said now I can buy a new couch and carpet. Glad I have a buddy in the carpet business.

My wife earns her own and spends her own. She recently sent $2000 to a school in New Orleans that my son-in-law cousin is the principle. If you have a Reverend in front of your name she would be more than willing to send you money.

A while back I posted complete plans for a dog house complete with furniture. Had one built and furnished. Actually, not too bad...I have a nice little sideline renting out the facilities. One lad took an extended stay. Be forewarned, however. There is always the threat of immediate eviction if I need a residence..... And the maid service is available , by the hour rates. Services provided vary according to wallet. (yours)...QR..

Consider youself lucky that you have your own money to buy something that you can get some use out of.
I just looked at what my Wife buys on eBay with her money, and I'm certaintly glad she earns what she does. So, I'm happy to buy my own stuff, and let her buy hers.

"Apr-04-06 - Apr-09-06 08:22:36 US $1,499.00 AUTH. LOUIS VUITTON MC BLACK BOULOGNE"

Good grief...I've been at auctions where you could buy a good Farmall for less than that!

In our Family we split the bills, My wife was unimployed for 6 months and I helped her out anyway I could she got her tax return and returned it all untill she was broke again. I have been wanting a lathe for a few months and kept telling her so she would not be suprised if one folowed me home one day. Well she ened up at a yard sale one day and the had a complete new kitchen apliances cuboards and all for about 3 cents on the dollar. She came home and pleaded and pleaded and beged how she has always wanted real wood cupboards. So I gave her a check and said if you get that you know I will have to buy that lathe , Yes Honey anything you want. HE HE HE,The only thing I did not figure was spending three to four days installing cupboards. JON

Well you screwed up not hauling it home all covered in dust looking as though you just picked it up at the scrap yard. That's how I get 'em home. Or better yet I drag em in when the warden ain't home. Get it in the barn and then cover it up with dust and tools and such. Boss once told me ya don't need to lie about it but you don't have to tell everything you know either.

So many opinions about this.. Wasnt trying to make her mad was just thinking of all the welding jobs I have turn down this spring because I needed a mig welder to be efficient with my time.Have had several light duty welding jobs that I didnt want to do with my stick welder. Have alot of the farmers close by that also stop in through the summer for mechanic work and welding. And I almost always give her half of the money I make off of side work. really not trying to cheat her out of money just trying to get enough stuff in the garage to make better money at home..... Sincerely River Botom Farmer

In all seriousness, you should have asked first. She would have said yes most likely and then you would be OK. Being able to afford it or not is a matter of perspective! Advice from an old married man. Hope you get to keep it and enjoy it. Dave

Haven"t you ever noticed that what you make is "ours" and what she makes is "hers"??? Seems to always work that way.

Actually, mine doesn"t work outside the home, but like to give her a hard time about what she spends anyway.

You really need to discuss large non-essential purchases before hand, and so does she. The problem comes in with the interpretation of "essential".

Good luck,

Keith

My wife also had that problem when I came home with a Marlin lever action 30-30 3 weeks ago, then last Saturday, came home with an AR-15. But she also got a $1000.00 camera for christmas in 2005. Good luck.

My wife doesn't yell, she stops talking to me for a while. My only chance of avoiding the silent treatment in that situation is to build her something...furniture, yard decorations... it doesn't matter. The more things I make for her, the more tools I'm allowed to keep. On the other hand, some days the silent treatment is kind of appreciated:)

Marriage is a partnership -- you should have at least mentioned a large purchase first. My wife spent a lot of money on herself when she taught school, but she also earned it.

The welder is used had only 2 hours of use on it.The guy that bought it dedcided he didnt want to pay for it and it was repoed.I got the welder for 500 bucks and the sand blaster was 100 bucks.Just added it to my snap on account.I didnt feel it was that big of a purchase considering she is working now and moneys not so tight for us right now.Maybe I was wrong but whats done is done may be sentenced to the couch for a few nights but she usually gives in. You're going to end up losing the welder. Might as well send it to me. I'll pay shipping.

You probably have some nice points, she might too. I'd write a letter instead of shouting it out. Usually by the end of the letter, I'm calmer.
