Odd TA Glitch-826

I've noticed an odd, occasional TA glitch. When I pull the lever back on a hard pull, once in a while nothing happens and the tractor stops. No power delivery. I press in the clutch, put it back into direct, it goes. I pull in back again and it works fine. This happens maybe one time in ten. I have adjusted the TA linkage according to the manual. Should I be worried? Any ideas?

Yep, Jim, she's on her way out... Depending on how you use it, it could go for years like that, though. Only problem with letting it go natural-like is that it'll go at the least opportune moment, when you need the tractor.

If you've got the $$ and the downtime, then it probably makes the most sense to have it fixed.

Jim,

Don't know if you wanna be "worried" or not, but that is the sprague clutch slippin'. That's how they act.

I'd keep running it until it won't pull at all on the low side. Then, ya gotta put a T/A in 'er.

Thanks Allen. I think. I wasn't going to worry, but I sure hate to spend money. At least it's on a tractor and not mundane stuff like car repairs or furniture.

I'll probably just put the TA in before in lunches completely. I got my planting done now, so I'll see to it before fall tillage time. I need a good tax writeoff this year. I had it split recently to put in a clutch too. Would have been handy to do at that time. Sigh.

Are the new "super" TAs from Case IH worth the money? Or is a normal reman unit OK?

Finally, Allen, how many acres do you farm. Those pics you posted on the implement group looked like you field went on forever.

Hi Jim,

Heck I dunno. That guy could last quite a while that way, but if you're like me those "irritants" just drive ya crazy. :>)

The big boys tell me that the Hy-Capacity units are pretty good. I don't really know as I just haul 'em to town for those big repairs.

Oh, I only do the farmin' as a back door, fun thing; have absolutely no illusions of actually makin' any money at it. That farm in the pictures is 320 acres, but it is all dry land, so not worth a heck of a lot.

Allan
