H leaking out of hose in tranny housing..???

The Scrapmetal H was running today on its own using gasoline!!! YAY!!! But, after driving it on three cylinders to the shop I noticed I had left a trail. There is a hydraulic hose on the left side of the tranny case and there is a fitting in front of it that is capped off. Same on other side, but both are plugged. I assume these are hydraulic outputs?? The lever I thought ran the pump (right side, up high and goes to long lever on the case) appears to be pushed in, which I think would be off??? The tractor has a snowplow at one time but the guy I got it from swears he didn't take any hydraulic lines apart, which means this one must have been leaking all along maybe???

So.. Should I cap the hose. run it to the port next to it, or what? My I and T manual for the Farmalls seems to be missing at the moment..

I also have a sticky valve. I am going to pull the rocker shaft assembly so I can get to it and try to spin it with a drill while hosing it down with something suitable. I really don't need to have the valve cover off every time I run it, and it seems to be much smoother on four, not three....;-) Anyone have any other quick ideas for sticky valves?

Also what should I expect to pay for a good pair of rear rims? I see in Gemplers they are over $200 each.. Mine are rotten.

I figured out how the hydro pump worked, and that it was, in fact, off. So a plug where the hose was cured that problem.

Now to cure the antifreeze leaks, I suppose you guys will tell me I have to replace these hoses that look like dirty old socks, eh?

THe real leak problem is those calcium filled back tires. Gonna have to bite the bullet on those one of these days. Anybody near Albany NY got some decent rims for an H?

Also need a manifold.. When I plug all the holes in the exhaust manifold with a wet rag it gets nice and quiet. The neighbors love it that way.

Sticky valve - brake fluid... but don't get it on your paint! Squirt it right in with the tractor running.

Don't get it on my what? in reply to Illinois Boy, 04-26-2006 14:07:34
Paint, you say?? You mean there's supposed to be paint on this old thing?

;-)

Hey I squirted brake fluid on it while it was stopped, then after it started, and guess what. It didn't skip a beat. Well, it still sounds like I have a little finessing the points and carby adjustments,, but at least the valves were all going up and down. I guess I might as well adjust them too. What is the clearance on a 41 H?
