I figured it was quicker to ask than search the archives but exactly what is the difference in a B and BN?

Thanks guys. There's one advertised here (Mississippi) as a "rare" 1950's BN. They want a grand for it (running).

The last BN rolled off the assembly line in 1947 or 1948 so a 50's model would not only be rare but a fake also. Dave.

The B uses 22" axle housings and the BN uses 18" axle housing, with a narrow front end on both tractors. The Bs with the A finals and axles on the transmission was NEVER put on by IH, it is a change soemone made after the tractor was bought and someone wanted to mow their yard with it and need it to be only 60" wide. Makes them very dangerous on any kind of a hillside. To convert a B to a BN, you would need to change a lot of things, but this is the major differance.

The BN uses the "A" rear axle on both sides.

BN is 8 inches narrower than a B. Axle housings on BN are 18 inches as opposed to 22. Right hand seat support is touching the fender, B has a 4 inch gap.

The B is very wide at the rear. The BN is a narrow version of the same tractor. Both have a narrow front.

B rear-mount implements will not fit the BN since the distance between the final drive housings is different.
