Carb Adjustment on 350

I recently and finally reserected an old 350 thats been dead for at least 25 yrs. with the help of a good friend who actually did a lot of the work. However my friend had to go back up to Wisconsin and I am not the most knowledgeable person about these old tractors. I grew up with them but never really did much work on them. I am having a little trouble getting the carb. set right. I had it rebuilt and the guy tried to tell me how to adjust it but not sure I am doing it right. I read the piece about the H carb and since the engines are basically the same, is that the proceedure I should try. Also since I had it rebuilt I have to shut the gas off every time I shut the tractor off for more that a few mins. or there will be gas leaking outof the carb. Any thoughts? Does anyone know where I can find another right side hood for that 350? Thanks for the thoughts on that 606.

The adjustments are not the same as the H. The Super H carb, and I assume the 300 and 350 also, have the main jet turned 5 turns, you don't turn it in until rough then out until smooth like the H. It can be turned in for better fuel economy, but not as much as the H. I didn't know that when I rebuilt the one on my SH, didn't read the manual first because I thought I knew how to do it. It would stumble under load, opening the screw 5 turns fixed it.

The initial settings are the same as per the instructions in the manual. All of them need to have final adjustments made on the tractor, and if 5 turns out is what yours took, then that is what it needed. The next one might run just fine with 4 turns out, and some of them are happy with the initial 3 turns out.

This is a direct quote from page 37 in the Super H operators manual: "The carbuetor on the gasoline engine is equipped with a main fuel adjustment screw which can be used to reduce the amount of fuel going into the engine when under light load conditions. However, when heavy work is to be performed in which the full power of the engine is required, the fuel adjusting screw should be set five turns off its seat. The fuel adjusting screw seat in the gasoline carburetor has been calibrated to provide a full-power mixture and should not be restricted by use of the adjusting needle when the full power of the engine is required." That said, I have not used my SH for "full power" conditions, and I can't say how much it can be turned in for light load conditions. All I know for sure is, I put a kit in it, assuming it was adjusted just like the carb on the non-super H or M (I have both of those also). It would not even go up a slight incline without sputtering -- that's when I read the manual. It might run fine 3.5-4 turns out for my use, I have not tried it. I doubt seriously if it will run worth a darn 3 turns out though, as that would be about where it was when I first adjusted it. The carb is not the same as either the H or M carb.

Yes, the adjustments are basically the same as an H. The carb should not leak gas when sitting. You should not have to shut the gas off at the tank. There is a problem with the carb.,either the float is not adjusted right, or it is not installed right. It may be as simple as a small particle of something has found its way in and is preventing the needle valve from closing fully, or, the carb was not thoroughly cleaned and the fuel bowl vent is plugged, which could cause the gas dripping.If you have any of these problems, the result will be an over rich condition which might be why you cannot get the adjustments made.

Sounds good but not sure where the vent valve is. If I take it apart what do I look for on the float position?

It is not a vent valve, but is simply a passage that opens into the air intake horn, and I have found several that were plugged pretty solid.
