Hello everyone,I have a tractor with the D-239 engine in it.Ive owned it for about 5 months. It has always smoked white smoke when it starts until water temp reaches about 140 deg.It runs great and starts right up.Today when I started it I noticed the faint smell of antifreeze from the exhaust.I checked the radiator and found it a little low from when I changed it this January.Does anyone have any ideas? the oil is clean possible head? Thanks Jason

Jason,

Don't get in too big of a hurry to tear it down. Sounds plumb normal to me.

They always smoke on startup and they ALWAYS puke antifreeze if they are over full. If you look in the radiator of one that has been working real hard, you'll find that the level is down quite a ways from the neck.

I'd just watch it for a few weeks. If there is no antifreeze in the oil, I really doubt you have a problem.

Allan

German's are famous for smoking when cold. Are you sure it isen't just unburnt fuel from a cold engine?

You should look for bubbles in the radiator. The head may be cracked. If you pull the head and don't see anything wrong with the head gasket I would have the head magnafluxed. Have it checked for flatness too. Hal
