ADLM, that"s OK, I MEANT to rain on your parade, because I wanted you to be fully thinking about any possible downside. If you could listen to all that, and still feel OK to tackle it, you"re ready!

I had that same stubbornness when the Chrysler mechanic rained on MY parade. It made me all the more determined.

I sent you a return e-mail. Stay in touch.

Re: charging question in reply to kennebunksawmill, 03-07-2009 09:06:00
Hey how ya"ll doing? I really don"t believe you have anything to worry about. It is not at all uncommon for ANY charging systemto read a little high after starting when a battery is at a low charge; think back to your trucks/cars when you have had to jump start after a dead battery. Basically this is the same thing. A half hour of running time would not have been long enough to fully recharge the battery so it will probably read high upon your next start also. Good luck

Re: 674 questions (PTO, Brakes, and Range) in reply to Hugh MacKay, 03-07-2009 05:11:44
Ready for the million dollar answer? When nothing seems to actually be wrong, pull the valve again. I popped it out, measured it, found nothing wrong, and put it back in. AND IT WORKED. 0psi when off and 225 when on. The funny part is that I could have probably done that before doing the pto clutch job, but oh well. New clutches never hurt anyone. So that won't need to be done again for 30+ years. Anyway, I'm thankful for your help. Everyone I have been talking to has been telling me to check things I've been checking. I'm glad I went for another look at the valve.

I'm going to look at it this way: If I didn't change the fluid and clean things out, I probably would have had the same issue spring up again shortly. Again, thanks for the help.

My neighbor thought the same way. in reply to Hugh MacKay, 03-07-2009 08:37:33
At 65 he was looking at a new tractor. Basically he replaced a worn out Massey 35 with a brand new one a tad bigger. His son was scandalized - "Dad, you'll never get your money's worth!" He wore the tractor out but at 88 he didn't feel like buying another new one.

Man, you just rained all over my parade. It"s ok though, I still think I"m up to the challenge. At least, I think I will be by the time I start. I can be a bit impulsive, but i can also keep my cool. It sounds like I"m going to do just fine, with a little help from my friends. I do have a couple of people who know engines really well that I could turn to in a bind.

Look on it for casting numbers and then post some of those Most will end with a letter and that letter in turn tells the year that part was made and from there you can get a pretty good idea of the year the tractor was
