I need HELP!!! I have wired my M now and it runs great but it will not charge or the amp gauge is at 0. It has a 12 volt gen and the the coil on the Mag has been bypassed to a coil on top. Good fire but it's not getting back the battery.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

Russell - Punch below for a troubleshooting flow chart that may help isolate problem.

Also, are you certain A) the ammeter is working properly (ammeter needles often get stuck at "0"), and B) the wiring is correct?

Hey, Thats another problem. I'm not sure if it's wired right. I have wired 6 volt but never a 12volt system. Which schematic on that site do I need to follow? I know I sound like a dummy but I'm just stumped.

Well it's not wired right it definitely won't work right!!

Punch below for the diagram of how your's should be wired.

Note: If your regulator has only 3 terminals (ie it has no "L") then simpy piggyback the orphaned "L" wire onto the BAT terminal.)

Have you checked the battery voltage? Use a volt meter and check your charging voltage at the battery with the engine at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
Should be around 13.5 to 14.5 vdc. Here's Bob M's generator/regulator troubleshooting flow chart.
It gives a step by step procedure for finding your problem. Hal
