I made a "bullet" tool out of a piece of walnut. Used a lathe to make something shaped like a bullet, about 2" long, with a recess in the large end to place over the valve piece (forgot the name). I copied the look that was in a manual I got from Binder books that talked about hydraulic repair. Anyway, after two prototypes, I got one that worked. You place the bullet over the end of the valve piece, move the spring over the bullet, almost needing 3 hands to do it, and when the spring gets close to fully expanded, you slip the garter spring sleeve over the spring, and push the assembly over the retainer, put your tongue to the left of your mouth, and hope the spring and sleeve don't fly off across the room --- twice. Don't ask me how I know this. It's tricky, but you need this bullet, in my opinion. And still, it isn't real easy. I did 3 of them. While you're at it, replace all of the o-rings.
