I have just been aquired a Farmall and the serial # plate says its a Farmall FC, is this odd. Most of the pictures are of just super C not FC. I will be selling it along with the cultivators, planters, and other misc Farmall pieces. Thanks, Brian

Super C's have a 6-digit serial number.

C: 501 - 71880
Super C: 100001 - 187788

From this site's Serial Number page.

Good luck,
Bill

BillWV , Not trying to be a know it all , but the serial numbers you quoted aren`t exactly correct. The first number for both series is absolutely right, but the second number you list is the BEGINNING serial # of the C and Super C`s final production year. The last C was serial # 80432 and the last Super C was 198310.You have to look in the prodution #`s link on left side of the page.Just to clear up any confusion. Mark

CNKS is right. Both C and Super C used the FC prefix. Only the serial numbers can tell the story, except for certain differences in the pedals, grille (taller), etc. Even some of the late C's used the C123 engine (vs. C113 on most C's). Once you are aware of the differences it is not hard to visually identify a C from a Super C. There have been more than one Super C made from a C just by adding the stickers. Some put in the larger bore sleeves, and put Super C stickers on thinking that was the only difference when in reality the Super C was really a newer tractor and the C was no longer in production after sometime in 1951 (the C replaced the B in 1948 having the same 113 engine as the earlier A and B). Super C's were built until 1954 until the 200 replaced the Super C. 230's then replaced 200's, 240's replaced the 230, etc. I believe Super C's, 200, 230, and 240 all used the C123 engines. Or so it goes according to what I have found.

There's a lot more differences than just the bore size.

The grill is different
The radiator is different
The gas tank is different
The steering wheel is different
The brakes are different
The gearing is different

And that's just what I can think of off-hand, there is surely more.

According to some of the Super C advertising literature, several of the castings are stronger and heavier. Always wondered if that was really true.

When I was looking for my SC, I ran across several C's that were badged and advertised as Super C's. After a bit I could tell pretty quickly if it was a Super C or not. The one I ended up buying is a Super C that was advertised as a C. Fortunately, they had a picture with the ad. The Fast Hitch pretty much gave it away.

Also ran across a late C that looked just like a Super C. Apparently in the last few months of C production some (all?) of the changes were in place but they were still badged as C's.

Good luck,
Bill

No argument, but the gas tank is really not the same? I thought the grill was taller because of the taller radiator, thus the hood and gas tank are higher, but are the same as the C.

The tanks have different part numbers but I don't believe there is much difference in appearance. Usually when someone says the tanks are different they are meaning that the C tank sits down on top of the touch control while the one on the Super C is about 3" above the Touch Control unit.

Like I said, "C and Super C gas tanks have different style mounting brackets underneath. Not interchangeable without a lot of modification."

Look at the bottoms.

FC is the prefix for a straight C. Super C would be SC.

Nope, FC is the prefix for both the C and Super C. Only when IH brought out the Super H and Super M, did they use the S.
