The 856 finally arrived yesterday. Should I get rid of the cab? It is quite a rattle trap. I have some fenders from a 544 that I could use, but I would need to find some steps.

I agree, get rid of the cab. Unfortunatly, 544 fenders will not fit correctly. 544 has square axle housings, while 856's are hex-shaped.

I got that one covered KB. I have a set of 806 clamshells that I will take the mounting hardware from. And the best part is that those clam shells will sure look nice on my 560.

I'd have to agree with everyone else on that cab. A cab like that probably decreases the value the tractor and certainly doesn't add anything to the day to day functioning of the tractor.
If you really want a cab you would be better off shopping around for a good Hinicker or QT-1 Year Around cab. Some of the boneyards have good quality cabs for around $500.

You will definitely be happier without the cab. Somebody (but not me) might give you a few bucks for that cab cooler.

Ditto on heavin' that cab. They are quite noisy, and dusty too. I ran one for a guy when I was in High School that got so loose that it shook over far enough to dead -short the battery on the right side, it blew up all over me. Never cared for em' much after that. Mark

Good For you Curt!

I vote for givin' that cab the heave-to also. Unless the air conditioning works really well. :>)

I have a set of double steps that might work. They are the wrong ones for my 666, that takes the cast single step. Yeah, unless you want to run it in the winter, take that cab off. The glass will echo the sound back and drive you nuts. does it have a roll cage? I took all the glass out of a year-round cab on my 656 and turned it into a sun-shade and love it. Congratulation, maybe someday I'll own a big-frame tractor.

I don't run much in the winter and that cab sure cuts down the visibility. This 856 has the long axles and you can't see where they are at with that cab. We will be cutting grass hay here in a couple of weeks on the irrigated fields. Plan to put this girl on the baler and give the 560 a rest by running the rake.
