A friend of mine has half a 55 gallon drum of Chevron 15-40 he wants to get rid of. Would it be OK to run this in my M or would it create problems?

Thanks,
Bobg

I don't run anything but 15W-40 in all of our tractors. I did put straight 30 in a small crawler, but that is due to low oil pressure.

Very good oil will remove any sluge in engine .....best to remove and clean oil pan and valve cover.....may have to change oil and filter sooner....good year around oil.....you can run diesel oil in gas engines, but cant run gas oil in diesel engines..... go for it.....

It's good stuff. If it's clean and fresh (no deterioration or contamination) you can run it in your car, truck, and lawn mower as well. It's a little heavy for winter, though.

Actually, if your tractor has adequate block heater or heaters and is inside an unheated shed 15W40 is also quite satisfactory in winter. It is what I have used for 15 years without undue difficulty. I would much rather start a tractor that's been plugged in for 6 hours and has 15W40 than one that has 10 or 5W30 and hasn't been plugged in. But then what would I know about it, I'm from Manitoba and it seldom gets cold here!!

I run Shell Rotella T, 15-40, in my Farmall H, and have for years. The high detergent of the Diesel oils will clean the sludge out of the engine, you may want to drop the oil pan, and maybe remove the valve cover, and revove what ever sludge you can, before you use this oil.
