My name is Dennis and I'm from Upstate New York.Needless to say there were not many rice or wheatland tractors sold in this state.Last year I managed to purchase one of both. The first,...1963 Minne Mo 602 Diesel Weatland Special. This Tractor is very rare but aparently spent a good part of the last 20 years on the bottom of a farmer's pond.I got it running and looking nice but thats another story,...The second is a 1956 McCormick Super WDR9.This tractor was in very rough shape as well. The owner had completely disassmbled it right down to the last nut and bolt.He was perparing to sell the parts on EBay.anyways,...I traded 5 old tractors for 7 fairly rare basketcases...And I mean Basketcases. It took 3 pickup trucks with three trailers to get te poor old McCormick home.now almost a year later I've started to restore the old girl. This is where the info comes in.See I have about 30 or so old tractors that I've been collecting in hopes of ressurecting.I'm fairly young at 37 and I wasen't around to work on these old work horses when they were in there prime.Thats where the research and trial and error come in.Here is some that I know about the WD9 vs SWD9. -W9,WD9,WDR9,I9,ID9,T9,U9 all had a 335ci engine regardless if they were gas or diesel. -The SWD9 and SWDR9 was the only to have A 350ci engine which only came as a start on gas diesel. By taking info from the hundreds of books and manuals that I own,...I've been lead to believe that the super WDR9 was made in only 1956 and 1957.The number of Super WDR9 tractors is extremely low.Maybe less than 500 in the whole run of this tractor. This number also includes the Super WD9 tractor as well. The only difference between the Super WD9 and the Super WDR9 is the tire size and the rear fenders. The SWDR9 had high flotation tires with an extra wide footprint. It also had super sized rear fenders that almost completely covered the surface area of the rear tires to keep the mud from the rice feilds from kicking up onto the tractor. As far as a difference between the SWD9 and the SWDR9 and all the other 9 models,...Horsepower 48.45 drawbar HP on the other 9's to 64.00 0n the Super's.Weight.5,850lbs on most others.7055lbs on the supers. Now heres a bit of information that is a bit contardictory,...The engine on my tractor was left with water in it so it froze and broke very badly. This is why the previous owner was parting it out.I happened on a D350 Gas start diesel at an area auction.Just what I'm looking for,... and noboby else is!I got it complete for $100.00 and it runs excellent! After some more research,... it turns out that the motor is a SUD9 Power Unit that was used at an area Ski mountain for running the chair lift. They had had it there since 1958 and decided to upgrade to a more modern power unit in the last couple of years.Lucky me because I've been looking for some parts for this lady and parts are scarce. Sorry for being so long-winded but if anyone has any other questions pertaining to Pre-1960 tractors please E-mail me,...I've got plenty of reserch sources.
