I plan to buy an old tractor in Canada and bring it home to Washington state. As I was going through the ads I noticed some ads that said they will sell to a U.S. buyers only. Is their a problem with buying in Canada and crossing back into the U.S., Are papers/tax require at the boarder for the tractor?

IF you are hauling your own tractor either way and are simply a collector there should be no problem but do contact customs. Red

If the tractor was manufactured in the US you shouldn"t have any problems, but best to check in advance.

Jon: If your taking a tractor from Canada into the US, consult with US Customs before you do this. They will supply you with all the necessary documentation. You will even be able to phone them giving 2 to 4 hours advance of your crossing

If you are taking a tractors from US into Canada just reverse the whole process. You never see Customs of the country your leaving, so don't concern yourself about them.

As for rules they are different for each country, and rules are changing quite regularly. That is why I suggested get it right from the horse's mouth so to speak. I don't alltogether agree with Joe, US citizens will have less hassel with US Customs as will Canadian citizens have less hassel with Canadian Customs. Your Canadian vendor will probably want to be paid for the potential hassel.

The key to dealing with Customs either way is appear to know what your doing. Tell them precisaly where you came from and where your going, never be uncertain and never hesitate.

Why don't you ask the Canadian folks to bring it in the US for you, then pick it up once it's in the USA, that would save you a lot of trouble don't you think...

I think it is more of a problem to bring a tractor into Canada than it is to bring one out, but you should talk with some folks who have done it before you buy the tractor.
