The problem is probably a broken shifter roller or a woren shifter fork . Not a fun job to get to as the fuel tank and dash support must come off to get to it , sure hope ya don't have a cab on the tractor .

No there is no cab. Seems to be extra play in the shaft that goes down into the transmission. Other than that all the linkage is tight.

Yep. the problem is down under the range cover , as to what it is don't know for sure till the top cover is off and ya start looken . So ya need either a cherry picker or a over head hoist to remove the fuel tank and dash support . lost of wires and lines to remove along with all the hood sheet metal plus draining the coolant so ya can remove the temp probe . And most of the time the fuel tank is near full and is wise to drain it for easier handeling. Having a parts break down helps to find is there are any rollers missing if ya have never been in one before or the spring is missing on the detent. I have to pull the one on the 1066 one of these days as it has a broken roller on her and first is our problem gear . You have to hit it just wright to get it . That was all rebuilt 8 years ago but things do break as nothing lasts forever.
