how hard is it to put hyd. on a mid 40"s A that has none?

Thanks GUYS!!!!! !! I was trying to figure out a way to convert mine to a 3 pt hitch, and thought the hyd. was the worst! but now thinking of it, the hitch would prob. be worse than the hyd's!!!!!

It depends a lot on your fabrication skills.

"Factory" live hydraulics are not an option, unless someone has replaced the original engine block with a Super A engine block, OR if you have one of the very last As manufactured. The flat spot on the block where the pump mounts simply does not exist on the older engine blocks.

First option is a PTO driven pump. It can either be a purpose-built pump, or a belt-driven arrangement similar to below.

Second option is scabbing an old power steering pump on to the side of the engine and running it off the fan belts to give you "live" hydraulics. This one requires the fabrication skills, and unless you're really good at it, it's going to come out looking like #2 and won't work very well.

Do you want live hydraulics? Or would running it from the belt pulley be OK?

Either way, 2 days of work for me: 1 day to round up all the parts, 1 day to make brackets and mount it all up.

Its not hard at all Marty although you can wrap up a considerable amount of money in it depending on what you are looking for as far as gpm and pressure.A simple belt driven pump and a reservoir are easily intalled and if done right they look real good as well as work good.If you are the mechanical type you can pick up the stuff at TSC and build it all yourself and there are alot of guys one here that can tell you what you need to get RBF
