Carbs are pretty simple to work on but hard to get all the passages clean as they need to be. You need to open it up, soak it over night or longer in something like Berrymans carb cleaner. Then you need to blow out all pasages with air and or carb cleaner in spray cans. I use both the spray and air when I do one.

Do it yourself for $19. Pay someone $150. It is a piece of cake. Mainly involves a good cleaning. Everyone has their own way to clean it. Do it however you see fit.

If the carburetor is from a running tractor, then it probably would be that easy. If it came from a fence row derelict, or from a tractor that has not run in several years, the usual cleaning methods may or may not work. I have rebuilt several that were so full of crud that soaking them for 2 days would not loosen the stuff, and spraying the aerosol stuff into the passages would not dissolve it either. It all depends on the condition of the carb you are working on.
