This is a rubber tire conversion of an 1847 Cottonall. Real popular in Mississippi and Alabama before the War of Northern Aggression circa 1861-1865. Sold in the North as the Amana '8' Iron Horse and still in use on some Amish farms.

Say.. that's neat. i've love to see the powertrain arangement... I wonder if it is just a long crank with the pedal reels setup on it with OR setups on the pedals, and that is coupled tot he clutch/flywheel or what? gear reductuion before the flywheel?

Photo was taken at the Hawk Museum, Wolford, ND.

I didn't get a chance to catch up with the owner/builder.

There are 8 individual bike frames, each with it's pedals and overrunning clutch. There are chains from each unit to a countershaft, with a chain drive (reduction) to a mainshaft coupled to the flywheel/clutch.

I don't know what gear he was in, but the kids were pedaling like heck, and just rolling along!

Well, let"s see. Eight kids equals about 3.76 HP so this thing should be able to pull a 6" one bottom plow... but not very far, depending on the snacks you give them.
