I work in what was the old Farmall tractor plant in Rock Island, IL. Just thought some of you might want to know that most of the complex is scheduled for demolition. The far West end of the plant where my employer is located will remain for another 10 to 15 years. Some of it will be turned into a recreation area and the floors and foundations of some of the older buildings will be incorporated into the landscape as a reminder of it's glory days as home of the Farmall tractor.

A fair to good digital camera can use software to "splice photos together seamlessly. It would be worthit to do that! IMHO,

There"s very little on the ouside that gives any indication of what it once was but inside there is a main aisle along the South Wall and there are large murals painted of all the different models of tractors going clear back to the early McCormick-Deerings. Each mural is about 8 X 10 feet. Many of us have tried to photograph these over the years but the lighting is very poor and the aisle isn"t wide enough to get each mural properly focused. It"s a real shame because this is in the part to be demolished and these will be lost forever.

This area was once home to Farmall, Case and Minneapolis Moline tractor plants and the IH combine plant in addition of course to being John Deere"s corporate HQ, now the only thing left is JD unless you count the fact that my employer builds certain models of CNH tractor cab frames. It seems appropriate that they are built in the old Farmall building.

Tried to take pics again this morning, had some success finally as they have removed portions of the inner wall so I could finally get each mural in full frame and focused although the lighting still isn't ideal but the mural for the 2+2 is peeling badly and is blocked by boxes and vandals have destroyed the mural with Cyrus McCormick in it but the rest are still in fair shape.
