Hello,
Need some help. I tracked down a 966 in France. My french is not very good but the owner thinks the tractor needs a few things:
-New clutch (maybe also T/A)
-very poor brakes
-pto slips under load
8500 hours on tractor

Who knows roughly how much this is going to cost in (aftermarket)parts ??
It would be nice to know before I go to France.
Thanks !

Now i don't know what the prices are over across the pond but over here a good HD. T/A will run ya around 650-750 US clutch and pressure plate around 250-275 seal and gskt. kit around 65 MCv spring kit about 40 . Doing the brakes better figue around 200-250 a side . PTo kit last one i bought was around 105 complet then ya have to have the special fitting to set PTO pressure and a couple fittings and gauges to check and set pressure on the T/A With them hours who knowes what else it needs and you may find that ya may have to start at the raditor cap and end at the PTO So if it looks cheap by the time your done with a complet and total rebuild of the whole tractor you might have gotten off cheaper taking a trip over here spend a couple months shoppen over here buying a lower hour tractor exporting it home that the only thing it needs is a new owner. like one of my buddys he bought a 766 Gasser for what he thought was cheap money but by the time we got done with it he could have bought a 1086 cream puff for less and the two 1066's that we totaley rebuilt from ft to back . One of them when done was pushen 19000 real hard , but he had a sharp 1066 totaly rebuilt from ft. to rear and every nut and bolt was out of that tractor.

Thanks tractor vet for your info.
The high hours is also something I don`t like about this tractor. In europe the US models are hard to find. I looked at a few tractors in Ohio 2 years ago, but the trucking to Baltimore was very expensive. Have to come back and do some car and tractor shopping closer to the East coast !
Thanks.

The going rate here (I recently checked) was $3500-4000 labor to replace a TA and clutch. The parts run anywhere from $800-1200. Maybe a little better if you shop hard and take no prisoners. Som of the "rebuilt" TAs are a little suspect, I think. Couldn't tell you abou the brakes and how much they would add to the cost

That is outragious for labor even on a cab tractor as it is not that big of a job . The 86 seires and the 66 seires with the cabs are the worse . but only add a few more hours . The labor even at 60 bucks and hour should not go over 2400 and even at list price for a clutch and a good hd T/A with all the seals and springs and gskt 1200 should be tops anything over that someone is getting ripped off .

Yeah, once I regained consciousness after hearing it, I thought so too. I checked three nearby dealers about doing my 826. They were all about the same. I got the impression they didn't like doing the job... hence they want to make it "worth their while."

Just and 826 heck that's a pice of cake .To bad your not closer i could screw off and have it done in five days with barleypop breaks and get ya done and out for around 2750. And if i realy wanted to work at it three and a half days. With no cab and doing the job wright i figure 27 hours with no cab by my self with out using any air tools just call me old fashioned.
