Hi, My 1942 H has a delco remy distributor. Is that correct for this year of tractor? the distributor stands up vertically, where I have seen other tractors distributor lying horizontally. This is a dual fuel tractor. I am working my way to making it original as possible.
Thanks to all that respond.
Scott.

Your H originally had a magneto. The magnetos were a bit troublesome so the vast majority of Hs had the magneto replaced with a battery ignition distributor. Some of these distributors were the upright Delco such as you have, and some of them were the IH built units. Neither of these is "correct", but both are appropriate. If you want your H to be "correct", you will need to change it back to a magneto. If you don't care, it don't matter. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hi Rusty, We had a new Farmall H in 1095 that had a mag. There were problems with starting it and it was converted to battery ignition with a distributor. That seems to be a somewhat weird since we had a 10-20 with a mag and I don't remember ever having a starting problem with it.
Even in cold weather it would start since we would spread manure if the ground was frozen and we used wood in an old cook stove and we used it for sawing wood. We got a C later that year and it always started. Hal

Boy, that must be the FIRST tractor off anybody"s assembly line if it was made in 1095!!
The upright Delco distributor was necessary if a live hydraulic pump was added to allow for clearance between distributor cap & oil filter.

Had the finger on the wrong key didn't want to retype the message. We got 15.15 inches of rain here in MD. That was from Sat through Wed. and flooding is occurring in PA, NJ and NY. Not good news for farmers. Hal

So should this tractor have a Magneto instead of the distributor?? Also how can I find out what this tractor should have for its ignition system?
Thanks
Scott.

The upright Delco distributor is an "aftermarket" unit.
