I aquired a Super A over the weekend for far too much money at a local auction. I have yet to aquire the manual for it. The final drives are pretty noisy making me think they are dry or nearly so. How do I drain and fill them? Is the filler for the rear end the same as for the rear most PTO?
Thanks

Stop worring about the noise as they werent quiet when new. Just take out the fill plugs and see if there is any lube there. Mite just want to top it off with 90wt first then go for a drive. I will bet you 50bucks that new bearings wont quiet it down.

You need to remove the drain pans from the bottom of the final drives to drain the oil. Once you have cleaned and replaces the pans, you'll find the fill plugs just above the drain pans on the inside of the finals. If memory serves me well this morning, I believe they are towards the front of the tractor. If replacing the oil doesn't fix the noise, you'll need to replace the bearings.

Paying to much for something at an auction is not unheard of, I brought home a Gibson Model A for more than I paid for my 48 Super A! Eventually you'll forgive yourself and enjoy the tractor.

What year is your new toy?

Thanks, I'll look for the fillers. I am worried about the bearings though. I don't know the year because I forgot to write down the serial number before I left the farm yesterday. I'll check on it... At least the tractor is all original except the battery cables.
