I had my Super C carb rebuilt by Denny's. Cost $175 and got it back in a few days, as promised. Came back looking real pretty...but it was put together wrong and it wouldn't run the tractor. The choke lever was put together on the wrong side (should be on the engine side) and the adjustment was so bad it leaked gas and floods so the engine won't start/run. When I called them to ask a question about the choke plate, I was initially told that Denny would call me back. When he never called, I called back and was curtly told that if I did anything to the carb, they would charge me shop time and labor to correct their mistakes. The lady who answers the phone even called me back to make sure I understood this point. She was very short with me and quite unfriendly. Not what I expected from a shop that specializes in carbs and old tractors. I ended up having another local shop go through the carb and get it right (worth it to not deal with Denny's). Once that was done, the tractor runs fine. I wasted several hours of my time trying to get my tractor to run..not to mention the frustration and cost associated with this. Needless to say, I don't recommend Denny's.

I once called them to ask if they sell carb parts, the very rude woman on the phone said "we don't sell parts we rebuild carbs " and all most hung up on me.

I have delt with alot of different companies for many reason"s through my job and hobbies and when you deal with a company long enough you sometimes will have a bad experience but normally the good ones out weighs the bad ones. I recently had a John Deere 4010 Carb. rebuilt at Denny"s. I called the company and they explained everything needed and how everything was supposed to go. I did as they instructed and the carb. returned just as they had said. The carb. was installed just as instructed adjusted as instructed and pulled it that night, everyone was quite inpressed and wanted to know where I had gotten it gone over at. The carb. worked just as they said it would and we adjusted it just as we were instructed to do. Now... not defending them but if you have a problem why not write a letter to them asking for a explanation and a timed response. Kindness goes a long way from both ends. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the heads up guys. I was actually thinking of sending them some of my business. Not now, and I appreciate you saving me money and headaches.

When I read Super C Don's message, I almost thought that I had sent it in my sleep. I had the exact same experience about 2 weeks ago. Coincidently, it was on a Zenith carb from a SC.
The carb looked good when I got it back, but would not idle unless throttle was a half speed. It idled perfectly when I sent it. I called twice. The lady said someone would call back. They never did & when I called again; the same person was rude, ill-mannered & hung up on me.
I am President of our tractor club, & I have given the "word" about this company. There used to be something about "Customer Service".

I'm neutral on Denny's right now. I've read alot of posts about people getting poor service or poor work. I've only had one experience with Denny's. A couple of year's ago I was restoring a JD B. Had the card rebuilt/refurbished by a reputiple JD dealer that also did my mag and supplied most of my parts. The charge was $200. After I got it on the tractor, it wasn't even close to right, leaked, didn't run etc. So, I sent the carb to Denny's, another $160 later, it runs/performs perfectly. Just my experience.

Well, I've had dealings with Denny's for about 15 years, though not in the tractor world. No troubles... just the opposite in fact. I also know people in my world that have had the same stellar service. I've recommended them to family haven't had to live a bad experience down. Not sure what more to say. Wanted to supply a little positive balance to the discussion. You don't stay in business as long as them screwing people over every minute.

You are the first I have actually heard give him a compliment -- what kind of work does he do for you "in your world"?--just curious.

Then you got to be the first that has not gotten hammered . As i have had to redo three dist . and two carbs that were bought from him and the people that bought them from him got the same treatment when they called . But hey he got there money . Just ask my Accountant he droped a grand there . Then when things did not work correctly he asked me why and then it was up to me to make it run . But even a blind hog find and acorn once in awhile.

"My world" is the world of high performance car/truck engines, of which Denny's has supplied a few carbs over the years and I've been to his shop on a couple of occasions to see his people at work. Just last year they sent a Q-Jet carb set up to replace the "Thermo-Turd" spreadbore on my B-in-Law's Dodge 440 motorhome engine. Worked perfect. Hey, I'm not Denny's whipping boy here or his defender, but I have no complaints.

My guess is that tractor carbs are so simple, that they get thrown together in a hurry. There is no adjustment on anything but 2 jets and a float. Probably does more car and truck carbs, and does them right, or he would have to have more phone lines. Appears that he should stick to cars.

Good to hear that you got the carb fixed, but sad to hear that you had to pay for two rebuilds. It's even sadder to know that Denny's is still in business. I have read several comments about that guy on these forums, and not one of them is good. I guess I should put up my own website for carb repairs, I always try to do it right the first time, and if I screw up, I fix it at my cost.

Ya should have come on here and asked about Denny's . I have had to redo some of his handy work on his socalled hopped up carbs and dist. I guess if ya place adds in the old tractor Mag's. that you can sell junk and poor service for high prices . Like P.T. Barnem said a long time ago that there is a sucker born every min.

You're right..I should have researched Denny's more before I sent my carb to them..which is why I posted this message so the next guy has one more piece of info. Even us 'suckers' can learn from our mistakes.

Don't feel bad he got me too. I filed a complaint with the Ohio State attourney generals office. It didn't do any good but it's on file. I even posted the states attourney generals website on here so others could file a complaint.

Mr Tractor Vet
You speak the truth about slick magazine ads attracting unsuspecting buyers who later regret not doing their homework first. I couldn't agree more. But don't blame it on old PT Barnum. He never said the "sucker" quotation which people attribute to him. What he did say was, "Show me an audience and I'll entertain them." He was a showman & businessman first and foremost. His detractors paraphrased it into the "sucker" comment to discredit his good name.
Just thought I'd mention it. Thanks.

I just had an experience w Denny's that was a little questionable. I called last Tuesday to see what he could do for me. I said I have a STOCK SMTA (not farm class stock ;) the only thing it has was firecrater? pistons on the old rebuild. I said I was interested in pulling it part time but wanted to retain its usefulness on the farm. He then said, "Call me back when you konw what you have." Then hung up. That is what brings me here...
