I have a real early 1939 and getting the wireing back in shape. I have a copy of the wire diagram and trying to get the colors right. I have 3 wires running tward the generator, a heavy blue one, yellow and black. I am guessing the blue and yellow go to the generator and the black went to the mag. I am guessing to that this harness has been replaced and that I should get rid of the black wire as this would have the cable to ground the mag. the Wire to the lights was black right? but what color was the wire running to the starter switch? Also what are the possitions on the light switch? I have off in the first position, nothing on second position, front and rear on the third position but front lghts seam dimmer then the forth positon were I also have front and rear lights

If I had a scanner I would send you the diagram out of the Operator's manual. I type slowly and there is a good chance of mistakes if I try to do it manually. Many other things in the manual you wouldn't know about otherwise. The link is to Bob M's diagrams, it will have one at least similar to what you have, but there are no colors, you will have to trace the wires. As to the switch, what you have is LHDB: Low charge, High charge, dim, bright. This is for a cutout relay on the generator, which your 39 originally had. If it now has a voltage regulator, L and H are the same, as the voltage regulator ones simply had off, dim, bright. If your tractor is wired correcly, the rear light is not affected by the dim position.
