The tractor was loaned for haying. When we went to pick it up today, the 1 2 3 4 shift lever has no effect. The vertical shaft going down the steering column into the top front of the trans turns but no resistance is felt. Just sort of free wheels.

Reverse works and the high low shifter works. Tractor will move when in reverse and also move in low low forward.

It also appears they shelled out the Torque Amplifier. Any info on repair or replacement of the TA appreciated

Any one have any ideas on either of the issues

Thanks, Frank

Tractor Vet,
Thanks for the input. That was the problem and was easy to fix. Undid the bolts at the top of the shaft and pulled it up. Cleaned out the broken pins and put in new ones.

One other question. The oil lite stays on more than it used to. Are there any adjustments in the hydros that will fix/affect the oil lite?

Thanks - Frank

Well since i can not see the tractor myself , this is what it could be . In the coupling collar there are two Tappered pins that couple the two shaft together , now it is not common that one may have sheared and the main shaft comming down is moving but the one that goes into the speed transmission cover is not . So try and drive the bottom one out now they will only come out one way . Or ya could remove the cowel and see if ya can pull up on the shifter shaft if it comes up then the pin is sheared . As far as the T/A that is major tear down and some seirous money . Now if it broke while you were useing it well then the neighborly thing to do is fix but if it was out when ya got it then that is the way it would go back . I would fix the shifter as a sheared pin is about all that it can be unless someone was real hard on the tractor and broke the shifting forks and that job is and all day deal if ya had everything ya needed setting there.

This response is hopeing that the tractor vet will give more details. I have the same problem on my 806 but I know the roll pin came out of the bottom shaft and it fell down where I can still see it but can't pull it backup with anything. What or where is the cowel or how do I get this shaft back into the coupler to put the roll pin in.

The Cowel is the sheet metal that covers the top of the dash support and rear of the fuel tank . Now on your problem this is going to be fun to fix and i am going to have to give this some though as i have never had one drop down as i have always caught them before this happend .Think -think- thinking more thinking and some more thinking ----- ----- -- Just how good are ya with a welder ????? ? , If ya are REAL GOOD ya could tack a long bolt on the top of the shifter shaft and place the coupler over the shaft and line up the hole for the groved pin and install a new pin . Then snap off the bolt and install the shaft and replace the pin there . I know i did not do a vary good job explaining this . Pull the coupler off the shaft and go on top and remove the linkage and pull the shaft up . Take a long bolt thatis longer then the coupler and lightly tack it to the top of the shifter shaft that goes into the speed trans cover if it is still up high enough that ya can get ahold of it , then pull it up and hold it till ya can get the coupler over it and align the holes . But make sure that ya get it wright as the tapper is hard to see . And then after ya get the bottom pin in all will be well in WHOVILLE . Now if the pin holes are woren real bad i have had to drill then out and use a bolt with a onsize drill and install a bolt inplace of the pins , but here you will have to grind the head of the bolt way down for clearance reasons and use a half nut for same reason with no threads sticking out of the nut . I wish that i had me one of them fancy high tech camera so i could post pictures it would realy help some of you guys out .
