Spark Plug question

I know, this has been beat to death but I have Champion 16 plugs in my M and putting up hay they carbon up and about once a day I have to take them out and scrape the carbon off them to keep them running. Then ok till the next time. Is there a better or hotter plug to use. Thanks, Harley

Harley, sounds like a lil hotter plug may help your situation. Ive seen guys even add an extra plug washer on some plugs which makes em run hotter. Theres Autolites that fit n work that are hotter then the 3116, but its advantage is its a NON resistor so you might give it a try. Good wire core wires and good adjusted points may help plus dont run the carb any richer then necessary to avoid excess black smoke from over rich running which blackens n fouls the plugs. Make sure the air cleaner n inlet piping are clean n free and the choke opens full n stays open and the floats not set too high.

Dont hesitate to give her a good general igntion tune up (cap rotor wires points n condensor) cuz it can help and its not all that expensive, then start out with the hotter plug n with the carb adjusted if needed n see what happens

I'd try turning the main jet in 1/4 turn at a time and see if you can lean it out a little and still get good power. That may clean up the plugs and save you a little gas to boot.

I've switched to Autolite 3116, with good results so far.

This is like asking what the best oil is: you'll get a lot of differing opinions.

I went to D-21 plugs in several of the old 4 cyl I.H. tractors and has really helped the fouling, especially the H with one weak cylinder. Also using them in 2 of the 560 6 cyl with same good results. Migraine

Same here! Switching to D21 plugs 7 or 8 years ago completely eliminated my plug fouling problems.
