I have an A that I would like to put a belly blade on. Runs strong but no way to raise & lower implements. I also have a super C with a bad engine. Will the "touch control" hydraulics on the C bolt up to the A? I don't think the C's pump will bolt up to the A's block, so maybe I could run a pump off of the A's PTO?

Several years ago my FLI and I mounted a power
steering pump on his farmall A. It was mounted just
under the Generator. The pulley on the Gen was replaced with a double sheave pulley from a Chrysler Product Car. Then a belt from the Gen to
the Power steering pump. Don't let anybody tell you
it won't have enough power, I once used a power
steering pump to power a dumpbox on my pickup. Plans are still available from the Mother Earth News

It's possible to rig a small belt driven hydraulic pump to run off the generator belt. You just need to make some brackets to mount it and then get a longer belt that will go around both the pump and generator pulley. Northern Tool has small hydraulic pumps designed for belt driven use that I think would work. This way you would have live hydraulics. I've got a tractor that is rigged up this way. I don't think would do for any heavy duty work, but is fine for light lifting.

DId you mount the hyd. pump on the same side as the generator?

Yes, it is on the same side. It was mounted above the generator. This setup was on a Hebard Shop Mule, but I have since moved it to an I-6. I had to make new brackets for the I-6. I still have the ones for the Shop Mule, which I believe would fit an A, but might not fit another pump. I do have a photo. If you send me an E mail, I will send it to you. Can't see a lot because there is a brace for a snow plow bracket that partially obscures the set up in the photo.

CR: Your not out of the woods yet, the touch control unit will not bolt up to the A torque tube. If you take notice the top of the torque tube is flat on the C. The C torque tube will bolt up in the A.

If your going to that trouble you may as well take the engine to and install your crank, pistons and sleeves.

Not live, but works great. Pump is about 5 gallons per minute, works to lift the sickle mower, rake, etc.

Thankyou for the pics, that might be the best bang for the money. I'll have to put new bearings in the right angle drive and find a belt pully. I've got a GM power steering pump as well as a log splitter valve...i'll just make a tank out of stainless pipe. Mount a ram under the belly useing the cultivator mounts..

Old is correct, the best unit is Live from the front of the engine. Through crank hole, or with an adapted pulley. Be sure to use correct rotation when installing, pumps vary. The components under the fuel tank would need serious effort to put in (I believe they need mount holes in the torque tube, and more room. I wold use remote cylinders because they are often more handy than a built in rocker arm system. JimN

Years ago I built a sickle mower for my B from 2 or 3 other sickle mowers and used a power steering pump from a chev, a valve body and a cylinder to do the lifting it worked great. I sold it years ago because I got a MOCO to use and didn't need it any more
