Help with new Farmall H

I just traded a truck for a Farmall H. I have been around tractors my whole life but this is my first Farmall. Two questions I have soo far. Does it have live hydraulics? And second, It appears to have hydraulic remotes on both sides. The right side currently is attached to a cylinder on the belly mower and the ones on the left are capped off. I figuered out the lever to make the cylinder work, but how would I operate the ones on the left side if I wanted to run something else?

It's not live hydraulics. The power from the pump (the brand name is "Liftall") comes back from the transmission; if the clutch pedal is depressed the pump's not pumping. Takes some getting used to.
All three outlets are supplied from the same source - the one lever works them all. The one on the right and the front one on the left move first and when the cylinders they're pushing reach their limit a (similar to a relief) valve opens to supply the rear outlet on the left. Anything more complicated you have to add valves and plumbing. Some people add a spool valve on one of the outlets and keep the lever pulled back for a steady flow.
If you want to get a really in depth explanation IH published an excellent manual for the Liftall unit. You can get one from the good people here at YTMag.

williamf, I must disagree with your statement about the delayed lift on the rear outlet for the Lift-All. It only does that IF there is a delay valve installed at the fitting or cylinder. Check the pictures and it is plain to see. All 3 outlets work at the same time and same pressure; anything different is controlled outside of the pump.
As a former mechanics teacher, I wanted to be sure correct info is given.

Yes Sir,

We've visited about this topic before.

Although those are really nice diagrams that William furnished via IH, they are just a touch misleading unless you're really paying close attention and I suspect that this is where the "rear facing outlet delay" rumor started.

The delay is really accomplished at that restriction "valve" screwed into the hydraulic line ahead of the cylinder.

Either that, or park a tractor tire setting on a hose. :>)

You're quite right, Wayne. I hadn't spotted that.
The only difference inside the pump is that you have to push the lever a little farther to make the rear fitting drop.
Thanks, Wm
