Looking for opinions

Hey guys, long time reader of this board, would value any opinions. Looking for a small Farmall to work on with my 7 year old son, and hopefully turn it into a productive tractor for mowing, hayrides, and anything else we can find a use for. He is talking about a Cub because his cousin has one. I'm leaning towards and H or A.
Looking for the 1000-2000 price range. A mechanically sound tractor that we can do some cosmetics and general repairs too. Any advice or other models you can suggest? Thanks in advance

For the ASKING price, move up to a 240 utility (or a 300-330-350) instead of a cub. They are lower to the ground and much more useful overall.

A cub would be good but also the A, B, C and even the H all of them would be good ones. Plus an H can be found cheaper then a cub most of the time. Shoot I have 2 Hs right now I'd sell your pick for less then $1000. Both run but both need work

A young kid on a cub or A is just asking for a rollover. Get a C or H if he will get to drive it anytime in the next 10 years. Jake

I respectfully disagree. If the correct wheels and weights are installed, as when new, offset tractors are ballanced for all uses. If they are not, it is not the fault of the tractor. Every vehicle has risks, I believe we must instruct, and set an example, which limits liability and injury. The smaller Farmall/International units are slower in high gear, and stable when used on terrain they are appropriate for. My experience says that a C with the wheels set in, and a narrow front is no more stable than a Cub, but no less either. JimN

not sure about yours, but when mine were 7 years old, doing pretty stupid things was an almost daily occurance.

What makes you say that? Driven As and Super As since I was 8 or 9. Seen tractors rolled but have never even felt at risk on these tractors.

Any A, B, or C or super A, SC would be ideal. An H is a big tractor with big ambitions. If there is 10 acres to play with an H or SH is way cool as well.
I like those with live hydraulics for handy use.

I would think a Cub or A or even Super A would be a great project. Im thinking smaller only because your son is smaller and he could actually lift some of the smaller parts and help clean etc. Just my opinion, have fun lookin and restoring!
