I have the cam out and have the timing gear in my hand for a farmall H. I am lookng for the timing mark on the gear. It is not marked as the ones I am accustomed to. On a tooth, there are 2 small dots about the same size as the simi-colon on your keyboard for the computer. Is this the timing mark????? ?????g

There is a single mark 180 degrees from the double mark. The single marl lines up with the single mark on the crank, the double mark lines up with the double mark on the magneto drive gear.

Quote from H service manual: "Drive gear keyed to camshaft; one tooth of gear marked to mate between similar marked teeth on magneto gear and cam gear has two teeth marked to straddle similar marked tooth on crankshaft gear at the same time when engine is on No.1 TDC." The IT manual is a little clearer: "---mesh single marked tooth on crankshaft gear between the two marked teeth on camsaft gear; then mesh single marked tooth on camshaft gear between the two marked teeth on magneto gear; the governor gear and idler gear need not be timed to the engine."

Thank you for the reference. At the time I was struggling with the identification of the mark on the timing gear...I have not gotten it cleared up.

Tom,
If that is the gear I sent, I can't help because it's been to long since I removed it. Indiana Red has the crankshaft out of that engine. Maybe he could check the crank gear and tell you what marks on on that gear. ken

yep the same one. Since posting this, I went to an old hand at this business here and he, without prompting, said, "those two dots" are the timing marks.

Thanks for the response.
