I have a 300 farmall row crop and was wondering what angle hill is farmable and safe without a rollover? When the tire goes up na little It makes me wonder and I've been driving tractors since I was 14.

Theory is that when the center of gravity gets outside the line between the front tire and the rear tire, the tractor will tip over. The center of gravity is probably near the top of the torque tube. I try to keep the top of the hood inside the tire tracks.

Hi Carlton,

I know what ya mean. I had a tractor come up on me many, many years ago; half a lifetime ago, in fact.

I still get the shudders just thinking about it!

Be safe!

Allan

I agree with what was said, "If you have to ask, it's too steep!"

If you are unsure, stay away - it isn't worth your life!

All it takes is a mole hill or a badger hole to roll a tractor in an iffy situation.

In my opinion, if you have to ask, then the slope you are thinking about is not safe. I drove a tractor on a rather steep terrace one time. It got steep enough so fast that I stopped the tractor, got off and found someone to move it for me. If you have driven tractors that long, you probably already know. Problem is, you never know when a wheel is going to fall into a hole, turning an otherwise "safe" slope into a disaster.

For starters, widen the wheels out on the axles to about 8 feet. At that width it will work on pretty steep ground. When you look straight down from the seat and see the inside sidewall of the low side tire, it's too steep !

Yes. widen the fronts to the point that if you drove it in snow the inside half of the rear tires would cover the front tire tracks.

thanks for all the info guy's! I have widened the rears and the fronts are like wolfman said. I keep it safe as I like to live a lot longer! although I still break horses so I need to re think my ways.
