Super A - Which Mower?

I want some kind of finish mower for my super A, and I need advice regarding which type to get: a Woods belly or use the 3-point set-up? (My SA already has a 3-pt. hitch.) I can see where each might have advantages and disadvantages, to wit: Seems the belly would allow you to mow a little closer to shrubbery, fences, etc. but has limited ground clearance for loading tractor onto a trailer. Also, it looks like something you would want to leave on the tractor because you sure aren't going to install or remove it in 10 minutes.
The 3-point mower would be a dream to attach and disconnect from the tractor. Probably be easier to do maintenance on the mower also(?)
My biggest concern about the 3-point finish mower is the off-set pto on a SA. I've heard they can be rough on the pto shaft u-joints when mowing. Is that a legitimate concern (the off-set)? Also, I'm sure the front of the SA might get light with a raised up 5' finish mower on the back? Lastly, I suppose you can't mow quite as close to shrubs, etc. with a rear mounted mower - and you would also have to watch for the swing out when you turned(?) Those of you who mow with a SA - please tell me what you recommend. Thanks. Mike

I've had both on mine. A 72" 3-point and now a 60" woods belly. The 3-point worked well but I prefer the belly mower. Does a great job full throttle in 3rd gear.

I use a 3-point mower set up as a 1-point hook up you can get close but not as close as with the belly mower. I have used this set up for abut 9 years with no problums from the pto shaftand have not replaced the u-joins and they are still solid.

I"ve had a Woods L-59 on my SA since 1980. It"s always mowed a 2 1/2 acre lawn, plus a little ditch & brush mowing if need be. A very tough mower that cuts nice. I always mowed wide open in 3rd gear with it. In all that time, I only used three belts, one I threaded wrong and ruined. It has the original greasable spindles too.

ddg:
That sounds like quite a solid endorsement for the Woods belly to me. Thanks for the information. I'm leaning that way.

Mickey: You have a very good handle on the pros and cons of both. I do have a Woods 60" belly mower on my Super A. I love the woods mower, but am not overly enthused with the Super A as the vehicle. Too high around ornimental trees with low hanging branches. And your right, it took me a couple of days to get those belts running true 3 years ago, and I've never done it a second time.

I have thought of rear mounted mower, but there is a trade off with those as well on a Super A. If you mount it close to tractor, you increase angle of that pto shaft and if you move it away from tractor, shaft is better but lifting the mower becomes more difficult.

I wish I had a better answer. My cousin told me that in the 1930s his dad's neighbor trained the family driving horse to mow the lawn, go behind barn for his constitutional and not eat the ornamentals or flowers. I would call that having it made, a horse will pick grass uniformly, and at this time in history, fueling the family buggie with grass clippings would have some merrit. Problem is, we wouldn't stay home long enough for the horse to do his job.
