I lost the bid on ebay. Lesson learned. That was my wife and I's first time using ebay, so we didn't know how to do things better.

So now what?

There is that '44 H sitting in the field. The owner bought it as a parts tractor, but never took anything off of it. It's got no front tires... in pretty rough shape. $300

or... the search continues.

My Grandfather owned a late 40's H and an M. Comparing the two, the H would be lighter, and easier to haul around with my SUV. Plus easier to fit in my garage. So I'm leaning towards it.

Not interested in anything else yet because of money and room. Although the wife told me she wants a "cute little one"... so I may have to get her a 'C' and restore it. ;)

Have you tried Ag Source, California Farm Equipment, Capitol Press,Local papers and even the weekly throw away papers carry farm equipment. When you have a chance check out some of the sale and auction yards on Hwy 99. In your area a group puts on the antique farm show in Tulare in April so you need see if you can get in touch with them, if anyone would know of equipment in your area they would. Ag Source had nothing. I've never seen Cal farm equipment or Capitol Press. I've checked local papers. There is an auction in Hanford on the 26th. Only 1 '49 M in the yard as of yet.

I did contact Chapter 14 of the IHCS. I will send them another e-mail, now that I am looking for a new project again.

Mike cap press is a weekly paper that covers CA, OR, WA, and ID you can bring it up on internet. CA tractors has about 5 H's M's MD's a 300 IH for 750.00 C Super C and so on with an inventory always changing. Sorry last night I didn't have the time to go into detail. Don't give up and get the best you can afford and a Cub might fit in around the house. Allan Nor/Cal

Every time I've set out to add to the collection, and thought I found one to bring home, I'd wait a couple of weeks and either find one better or get a better deal. You'll know when your gut says "better not let this one go". The hunt has become more and more fun for precisely that reason. The hunt for the tractor, and the hunt for the parts are similar in that way. For example, I was about ready to pull the trigger on a straight H that I liked. Just happened to stop by a neighbor's diesel repair shop and found out he had a Super H that was just sitting there (someone bartered it for some diesel work). It was complete and straight but ran very rough and since he was a Cockshutt guy he could have cared less about the SH. Heck, he thought it was just a plain H when he offered it to me for $500.00. Now that was fun!

HEY MIKE, You may want to check with the fellow who was selling that tractor in a few days to make sure the first bidder did not renig on it. You never know that may have been him that bought it under a different name becuase it was going so low. I always wonder with new bidders with no feed back bidding at the end.its called shill bidding I am not saying he did but you may want to contact him in a few and say I was just wondering if the bidder went through with the transaction or not. Hang in there Mike, out of the roughly 400,000 Hs built, I think there must be at least 450,000 of them still out there somewhere. If you can get a line on a method of shipping that won't break the bank, I'll bet that someone here in the midwest could have an H headed your way tomorrow.

300 is about the max for a parts tractor but if you have your heart set on an H it might be a good investment. When you find one to fix up you are always going to need parts and you won't get them any cheaper. And the extra stuff you can sell. 'Course that only works if you live where the neighbors don't complain if you have junk tractors itting around.

I know where you can find a set of tires and wheels for that H that is missing them LOL. You also might go to the guy with say $250 cash on you ya be sure to bring the other $50 and see if he bites you never know unless you wave it under his noise. Some how seeing green can make a guy change his mind
