Is the 560 a good tractor for pulling 3-14"s in heavy clay. I also would like to pull a 10' disk in the same material. Or does a 720/730 john deere stand a better chance, with presumably a heavier rear end. Am not trying to stir it up, am in need of opinions from experienced people, so I can make up my mind.Am looking for the toughest of the two. Thanks in advance
Mike

I'm in Pa and 2 cylinder John Deeres are not real practical to farm with here. For the amount of money they bring, you can buy a much more modern tractor. For example, I've seen most 730's advertised for more than 4020's. Josh

My 560 will pull 3-16s in real heavy clay, I also pull a 12' ford disk in third gear. Great tractor buy the farmall. Scotty

3-14s is way easy to pull with a 560, 3-16 is more reasonable, even in clay based soil. The early issues with the rear ends were recalled and fixed(I believe they have not had problems of late) The Farmall will make rings around the JD in terms of work/gal. My opinion, JimN

I am not a farmer nor a JD fan, but doesn't the JD 720D hold the Nebraska test record for horsepower hours per gallon of fuel? Don't think the 560 was anywhere close to it.

It, the 720/730 set the record at the time which has since been beaten substantially. Just on the diesel version however. On the gasoline engines the HP-Hr's/Gal. were much closer.

Mike Back in the late 50's early 60's most 560 here in western Iowa most 560 pulled 4-14 or 4-16 and 13-6 disk. I worked on many a 560 no rear end problem after the update was done to rear end.
