Super A Radiator Cap Question

I need a new non-pressurized radiator cap with the locking tabs that hook on the OUTSIDE of the radiator neck. I believe that would be IH part #352-631-R91. The only ones I see on ebay and the antique parts houses have the INSIDE locking tabs - IH part #43983, I believe. Does anybody know if I have the right part number for the one I need? And, do you know if it is still available from Case/IH - or where I can get one? My super A serial number is 346981 (1953). Thanks. Mike (formerly City-Boy McCoy)

The c farmall with the same engine used the pressure cap too with no water pump.

Mike: I don't know about your part numbers, however serial number 346981, should have a presurized radiator. All Super A after serial number 336711 had presurized radiators from the factory.

The outside tabs would also indicate a presurized radiator. At least than is what mine has and it's s/n 336977. I know the A had tabs inside and they were all non-presurized radiators. I hope this helps a bit.

Hugh, looking at the TC-39 parts catalog, page 146, it shows both non-pressurized and pressurized caps used after 336711. since my system has no spring under the cap and no water pump, I am assuming it is non pressurized. The old cap looks like the non pressurized kind you see for sale new everywhere, except for the location of the tabs and it does not say "water" on it.
I guess I can use a pressurized cap in place of it, even though the system appears to be non pressurized? mike

I sort of agree with Hugh, but but the parts manual is confusing. If it was mine I would buy a pressurized cap. The lack of a water pump has nothing to do with whether or not it is pressuized, that I am sure of. I have 48 and 50 C's, and a 1953 Super A like yours, all pressurized, no water pumps. The worst that could happen is that your radiator could spring a leak under pressure. However, I really believe that the non-pressurized has tabs on the inside, pressurized on the outside -- the parts book does not confirm that though.
