Farmall Carb problems

Hi guys,
I’m having a bit of a problem.
I have a home made tractor with a Farmall Super A Zenith carb. (The engine is also out of a Farmall). It starts great, but when I use the throttle, it dies. I can keep it from dying by using the choke. The gas lines have unrestricted flow and there is no visible sediment in the gas tank.
In a nut shell, it has clean gas, but when I throttle her up, it’s as if I’m not getting enough gas.
So I thank you in advance, because I know you guys give great advice. Cheers!
Neil

Hi
Thanks so much. The problem was the little pin that’s operated by the float was sticking in the up position not letting gas down into the bowl. Thanks for your advice.
Neil

If that carb is one with out the adjustable main jet, you can remove the plug sort of thing that is on the one end, sort close to the bottom of the carb and make sure you have a good flow of gas out of it. If it doesn't then your main jet is clogged and will cause that type of problem. What I do when that happens to one I have, differant brand of tractor but same sort of set up, is I spray carb cleaner in to the main jet and then turn the gas back on and do that till I get a good steady gas flow. Sort of a cheaters way to fix the problem but it may only be a short time fix

EL TORO has probably got it right, but don't rule out a weak ignition coil, it can give the same symptoms.

If you don't get results with Hal's suggestions, try raising the float level a small amount at a time.

The carburetor may need cleaning. Jets could be plugged with dirt or rust. Check the inlet screen
on the carburetor for dirt too. When you need to choke the warm engine it's a good sign of the engine starving for fuel. These carburetors do not have a main jet adjusting screw like the H and M's. Would be nice if they did. Hal
