H and M Hand Cranks-What's Wrong?

Our "H" has a 3/4" shaft for the hand crank.
Our "M" has a 7/8" shaft for the hand crank.
I have been told they should be the same, and I see cranks advertised to fit both the "H" and "M".

What crank should I be looking for for the "M"?

An F20 crank fits a 7/8 shaft.

I wonder if it is the very early Ms that use the 7/8" shaft? My 1940 M uses the same size as an H.

Could be. Isn't the shaft 7/8 where it comes through the bolster and then necked down? Maybe his has been sawed off?

I think you're right, the shaft is necked down. I do have one H that has had the shaft cut off, and the 7/8" shaft welded on, a real cobble job.

Rusty, they made some kind of change in shaft after serial # 26116 don't know if thats tractor serial # or engine serial # .But don't think it was end of shaft size, Is your tractor later than 26116 ? Also MD shaft didn't reduce diameter on end and were same size to end.
