Wiring for 400

I have an old 400 that has been switched to 12 volt. The guy I bought it from has wires coming out everywhere and not sure how it was running in the first place. Does anyone have a diagram or know where I can get one that shows the ignition system. I just rebuilt the altenator and don't want to fry it.

first question,
does the tractor run? I mean, does the current wiring all function?

If so, just start sketching out the current wiring and create a diagram and make sense of it on paper.

The Story goes like this. I bought the tractor from this guywho knew less about tractors than I do. It had sat for a year outside and would not start. I put a new condenser, points, rotor. It Sarted ran for a while and then the wire that goes to the alt. started melting. It has just been running on the battery for a awhile. I thought about your suggestion for a bit and decided you were right but he has so many wires coming out of the dash its hard to figure it out. I am going to start from scratchon the thing so it would be nice to know what should be there and not.
