You can get steam cylinder oil up to 1000 weight and you my be able to get heavier but I have only gone to 1000. In the very old tractors it called for heavy steam cylinder oil in the transmissions. The 1000 is very thick and stays on the gears very well. You can get it from the oil distributors. The stuff I got was from Conaco. It was not very expensive and they had it in stock. I am thinking it was about $40 for 5 galons. They also has 680 and I got that for my W4 Mccormick but have not put it in yet. It has some loud gears in it. Fred.

I pump them full of grease sometimes. It quiets things down and last forever without a whole lot of leakage.

Any chance of finding a used set or pair of gears and putting them in ? Old gears against new will wear the new ones very quickly.

Ford used to use 600W gear oil in their steering boxes. (30's and 40's) I bought a quart of it from an antique ford parts place but I bet you can get it at a NAPA if you are willing to wait for them to order it.

We used to make our own for steering boxes on race cars which were located near the headers. We mixed 140 and STP in a 50-50 ratio. Worked well for us in that application, although I don't know what you plan to do with it.....
