I am still looking for a trailer. I have talked to many dealers but haven't decided anything yet. I have a M, Super M and SMTA to haul plus many smaller ones. One dealer was trying to convince to get a car style trailer where I could back over the fenders. Does anyone use that style? I would think if the tires were a little wet I would have problems. Some dealers think I should get a flat deck gooseneck. I am sure it would be good but so much more money.

I think I may be a little late in responding to this , but i have went the trailer "buying" route, I have had one of many types of trailers, and all that have been mentioned here, I purchased my gooseneck a year ago and have never looked back, after all the other trailers I wish this was my first, it will definatly be my last, it is an all around trailer, tractors, trucks, hay, equiptment, firewood you name it you can haul it, even hauled 7 yards of topsoil on it with sides I made, the deck over bumper pull is useless unless you have at least a f350 or equivalent, there is just too much toungue weight that was the last trailer i had before trading it in on this after only a week, [lost another 300,after trade in] I would suggest a goose neck if you are going to do any serious hauling, t he weight is put right where you want it, turning radius is so much better, and the ride is way better than any thing I ever hauled with. [except the 18 wheelers I have driven for years, but then you get into cdl, and all, but I wish I had the rig pictured in an earlier post that would make the ultimate tractor hauler,,here is a pic of mine with 2 N styled tractors with room to spare even with a 2 bottom plow attached to the rear tractor,, and yes I also have red tractors, [and green, and orange, and blue, ]good luck in your decision, pat

I researched the trailer issue to no end. I ended buying a heavy duty car hauler trailer because it was cheaper than a over the wheels flat deck...the trailer works okay. I hauled a M, a WD-6 and a SMTA and it"s well match to my tow vehicle. If I could do it again I would go bigger- get a 1 ton or 3/4 ton truck and a gooseneck flatbed.... but that cost"s $$$. At least get the bumper pull, deck over the wheels flatbed. That will save you some headaches loading...

Keep in mind old semi trucks/heavy duty trucks are pretty cheap compared to a new 1 ton pickup and trailer..

Well, the goose neck is nice if you have a large enough truck to pull it or you need to pull two at a time.

I use an 18' car hauler for my M with no problems. You can reverse the wheel centers and move them in far enough to load it without hitting the ramp. They look better like that IMO anyhow.

My trailer has standard 3500lb axles, so load is limited. If I were you I would get one with 5000lb axles. I would also suggest hide away ramps and steel floor while you are at it.

Just my .02

For my two cents worth I would highly suggest you to go ahead and purchase a gooseneck trailer with dovetail and THREE spring loaded ramps. Makes hauling those tricycle Farmalls a breeze and it is the only Safe way to load them. My neighbor has a two ramp gooseneck and I cringe everytime I watch him drive that tricycle front end up that side ramp.

OT, usually the smaller type trailers aren't wide enough for an M even with the wheels moved in, or have too much overhang with the 'fender' issue. Like the others said, get as big/wide as you can find for the money.

I have used a 18' trailer for years, finally bought a 2' deckover, wish I had done that years ago, beats hauling things one at a time.

OT,

I'm not much on haulin' tractors around, but on this one, I'm with the other guys.

It takes weight to move weight; just don't think you'd be happy with one of those little U-Haul type things.

Go ahead and buy a good sized trailer now while you're at it. If you shop around a little, you can find a deal here and there.

Yes you can go with a car type and drive on the rails, but yep theres problems if the tires are wet etc. BTDT. As rusty says go for the bigger one and don't look back. I use a car type and if I could I wouldn't but its what I have and no money to do/buy what I want/need. I've had te tire spin problem and believe me its no fun and can cause big problems if it where to slip off to the side, if it did you could flip a tractor over.

Do it right the first time. The flatbed, highdeck gooseneck is the only way to go.

And make sure you've got enough truck to stop whatever you get loaded and up to speed.

If you get a trailer big enough to haul two or three M's you've got a real load at 70 mph.

Hey OT, this whole outfir, truck, trailer with air brakes and all was a touch over 10500.00 You can't buy a newer 4 wheel drive pickup for that. And when I want to stop, it stops. Haul a lot of hay with it too.

Harley that looks like one of roadways old beaters set up to pull triples out west ,are you putting at least 500+ hp to the ground which is a lot for a single axle .

Harley, do you need a bank loan just to fill the fuel tanks on that rig? They look like about 150 gallons each.

Na, the bank won't touch it. They said I would have to get a low interest minority SBA loan to fill it. There's two a them big old 186 gallon jobs on there. I got the far one turned off as 50.00 worth of diesel fuel wouldn't even get the bottoms of both tanks above the suction pipe. And if ya sat on a slope sideways very long, it would even drain the uphill tank into the lower one. Harley

Ya, we'll probably make it out again this year. Nope, not too much grass to cut, but my buddy and I just might get a short second cutting of grass hay from down around Forsyth if it keeps raining down there. Nothing here that's for sure. We got 1/2 inch Sunday and you guys up that way didn't get a thing though. Usually it's the other way around.

A week ago Friday it was pouring as I left work. Water running over the curbs. Turned on the lane going to my house and it was dry as a bone. You could see rain falling all around us but not a drop here.
