Howdy,Well it would appear, that I have an early radiator in my 49 H, from the info I recieved from my earlier post. I have seen some pictures of the late winged pressure caps, they look to have tabs on the outer part of the cap that would grip around the outmost part of the filler neck. The early non-pressure type ,seems to have tabs that would grip the inside of the filler neck, like what is left of the one on my H, also as someone mentioned, the gas cap will fit and tighten up on the filler neck, indicating the earlier non pressure radiator. So now I have a couple new questions; From the enclosed picture, the radiator has a tube coming from the filler neck down to the bottom of the radiator, is this proper or normal for a non pressure system? One of the guys that responded to my prior post mentioned an overflow pipe coming out of the neck, but I was not clear on which system used it.Second, Should I have a thermostat to make the engine run in the run zone of the temp gauge? The gauge barely moves off cold even after running for an hour or more. Last, I have seen radiator caps referred to being used on short, or long filler necks, do H's have both? Can you tell from the picture if this is long or short. Sorry about all these long winded questions, it seems this tractor has parts from early and late tractors, I'm trying to get it all closer to 49 vintage if possible. Thanks again....Tom

The long and short neck terms refer to pressure systems only. The distance from the top of the filler opening to the ledge that the sealing gasket pushes on were the differene between them. Historically there were two styles of cap. (now there are more) If your H has a waterpump, it needs a thermostat. Running cold will reduce economy, and fowl plugs. JimN

You should have a thermostat to bring the temperature up. Mine runs from the bottom of "run" just idling for a few minutes to the middle of "run" on a hard pull.

Funny there is a non-pressure type radiator on such a new tractor...

I read you post of a couple days ago but when you presented the picture I was reminded how you determine the difference. It's the location of the locking tabs. Yours is a non-pressurized system because there is no neck for the pressure diaphragm.
On a pressured system the tabs will be on the outside of the neck so when the diaphragm is inserted it will seal the tank. The overflow tube will be located near the top if the neck. When the pressure increases the diaphragm will be forced upward past the tube to release the buildup of pressure. Check the cap on your auto to see what I mean.
I suppose you know the reason for the pressurized system is to raise the boiling point of the system and you will see a temp. above 212 degrees.
I'm not sure of the terms long and short neck. You should have a themostat, I think.

Looks like non to me as you can see the overflow tube.

That exposed overflow tube down beneath the pressure cap positively identifies it as a NON-pressurized radiator.
