Now take it easy on me boys as I am posting this for a friend and know almost nothing about what he is refering to. My friend is looking for parts, or operators manuals for the Farmall Electras. Would be happy with reprints. He as a couple and needs to know about the gear box for the tractor and how it belts up to the Electra unit. Any help would be appreciated, or email me with a phone # and I"ll have him get in touch with you. Thanks-Bob

I suppose I am the Electrall authority on this board. The Electrall manual comes up on eBay several times a year.

The tractor mounted gearbox is very rare. Some have said only 103 complete side mounted units were sold. I think most of them were taken off because it was a constant mesh setup. It drove off the gear that sent power to the IPTO. Electrall on top and IPTO on bottom. I removed the gear box on my tractor to see if it could be easily reproduced. A lot would depend on whether the gears are a standard catalog item. Apart from that there are two machined shafts, at least four bearings, (probably standard), and several cast iron castings which would have to be poured and machined. It looked to me like three or four thousand might get the first gear box in the hands of a customer.

I believe everything else for the installation is available on the PTO and trailer models which are more abundant. That would include the mounting bracket for the AC generator and the turnbuckle for belt tensioning. I have seen some sheet metal control housings that appear different but I don't think that would be a problem to reproduce. The belt guard is unique to the side-mounts.

I am willing to listen to anybody who might want to do a business venture concerning the reproduction of the side-mounted Electrall. Personaly, I think it is a losing endeavor because I don't see the demand. One has to understand that the other Electrall configurations are relatively scarce in their own right. Who is willing to spend $10,000 for a remanufactured tractor mounted Electral?

My email is open. I can shoot some pictures but I don't think they will turn out well unless I remove the gearbox. If somebody wants me to wrench on the tractor so they will have some good pictures, we will have to negotiate a price for that service.

Did a Google search for Electrall, and Wardner's was the first to show up!

I forgot to mention that I posted some pictures of my Electrall on this site many years ago. Probably in Tractor Photos. Search on Elrctrall.

I would also like to point out that an exploded view of the gearbox is available in IH Parts Book TC-55. That covers 400-450 row crops. I suspect it is also included in the W-400 and 450 book as well as any parts book pertaining to 560's. It is not in my SMTA book although the Electrall will fit that model.

Exluding gears, bearings, gaskets, seals, clips, dowels, washers, bolts, and the pulley which is splined, there are five parts that need to be made from scratch. Twenty-six parts total. This would be a challenging project for a well equipped vocational school. The welding and fab shops could also make the tin parts.

Wardner, I have covers 362807R1 and 362808R1 for top of T/A housing when electrall was used. The hole over T/A clutch and cover for that hole are shaped different than regular. Free to you or others interested that keep electrall stuff.

That's interesting. I hadn't realized that those parts were necessary but they certainly are in the parts book.

My question seems obvious, at least to me. Did you have a tractor set up with an Electrall and did these parts become spare parts when you decided you had enough of the gear lash noise associated with the heavy pulley acting like a small flywheel? In other words, too much click and clack?

A more interesting question is what happened to the gear box? Now that is something I would buy and you could sweeten the deal with the covers. I have no use for them currently but I suppose they would be handy if I found a gearbox. In short, send me an email and we can work out the details. Thanks.

Tractor I removed this from was a early 450 D. It had sit for years, engine stuck missing tin work, radiator, seat and few other things. Fellow bought it for the IH wide front. I removed and installed on his tractor for the rest of tractor. Don't know if it ever had electrall, the spot that gear drive goes on top had a small cover that looks factory for opening. Covers were made so well that I didn't realize they were two until removing. My first though was did this have electrall or did someone cut cover. After further checking I realized that back cover was little different than back of full sized cover. Have repaired T/A and whole center housings people drop off, besides other tractors I see and thats only one like that found so far. Did go to farm sale in Ohio 7 years ago that had a 400 with gear box still on tractor and electrall laying in barn.Tractor rusty and sheet metal ruff. I bid up to $2300 for pair but another wanted it worse. Only one beside at show I have found. If you need or want plates I can send by mail and you can pay postage amount on box later so theres no guesswork in amount. Dave

Can we give you a good-natured ribbing about your mispronunciation of "ElectrALL?" :)

Electra is an old Buick. ElectrALL is the short-lived AC generator option for FarmALL tractors (note the "ALL" theme).

Good luck getting parts. I hear that Electralls are fairly rare, and parts are almost nonexistent.

You bet! I would rather be corrected than laughed at for making the same mistake over and over. LOL. Thanks for the reply, I think the main thing the guy is hoping for is to find books that show the gearbox that bolts to the tractor and what the sheaves on the gearbox look like. He has two Electrall's but no way to hook them up. Thanks again - Bob
