I am looking at a 300 that has the low side out in the TA.
With the tractor in neutral and the TA in high the starter almost can not turn the motor over. If I pull the TA to low the motor turns ove just fine!!
have you ever seen this before and am I looking at a major problem?
Thanks for your help

Paul: The TA needs to be adjusted. Very likely the low side of TA is out, however unit adjustment must be maintained so TA clutch will release in unison with the main clutch. This problem can create both starter and shifting problems. Get a manual and adjust it to the letter, close doesn't count with these.

As far as TA being out, it will run for years without it. I'd personally buy a rebuilt TA, and fix it, they are very useful. Depends on what your using tractor for.

Does the trany shift hard out of gear when the TA lever is in high side, but slip out of gear easier when TA lever is pulled back to low? If so, likely that external linkage is out of adjustment. Maybe 10 minutes with a set of pliers and it's all better.

Sounds like the transmission isn't really in neutral. The tip of the shift lever could be worn down allowing the shifter to move to the neutral position but still leaving it in gear. You might be able to fish it back into the correct position by pushing at each 'corner' of the movement of the shifter.
