To anyone who can help. I have a 1946 H that I am using as a puller. I hooked to 7000lb stone boat last week, and made it 43 feet. The throttle was open wide however the engine just gradually slowed and stalled. I've checked the compression and it all appears to be good. I've been told that the carb may be dirty, or the governor may be off. I live in Belchertown MA so any help form far off, or near by would be greatly appreciated.

Jack

Ok, heres what happened. I wieghed in at the 4500lb class. The pull was at the Westfield Fair. It was aclay track. The stoneboat was only 7,000lbs. I was the only one who didn"t make a full pull. There were 4 other stock H"s that did it easily where I just stalled out. I attempted the pull in first gear. The tractor ran well but at 43 feet, just wouldn"t go anymore. The engine bogged down and finally stalled. I"m familiar with small gas engines but this low RPM 4cyl is a bit different for me. If anyone has suggestions as to where I can begin to trouble shoot and maybe what I should look for that would be great.
To the guy that is looking to get into pulling, feel free to email me, I"ll give you the schedule for the rest of the season.

Thanks again

Jack

Do you mean it just slowed as the load increased? All tractor engines do that, that's what they are supposed to do.

Didn't it rain last weekend? I presume you are talking about Granby and the crude track in the town recreation area. My recollection of that track, from 8-10 years ago, is that it has a slight incline after about 25 feet. I suppose it is designed that way to replicate the effect of a transfer sled. That grade change could be enough to make you run out of power depending on your gear and and the weight of the sled. I pulled there once and never considered going back. It isn't the kind of place where you can learn much by doing. Might as well stay home and pull your own stone boat through your wife's garden.
