I am not at all familiar with Red tractors, so I need some help. I found a really nice original M from just below Louisville KY, around Fort Knox where I am stationed. My nephew buys it and he gets it home and we get to fiddlin around and notice a lot of "improvements" welded here and there. I get to lookin at the serial number and it has FBK 154654 then stamped into the plate after that is "XI". Now on green machines that usually means an experimental model. Does the same hold true for the Red machines? On the pulley side of the transmission the numbers 1 26 48 is cast into it, as is 137 and 8002DD, and the letters C W C. Theys a fella offering to swap a ford 3000 for it, and we wanted to see if this was a gee-whiz tractor that we would want to invest a little more into. Since it is was found this close to Louisville, and all, we figgered we"d at least ask the professionals. (That"s you boys). I appreciate you all helping my lost green self out here.

If the Ford 3000 is in good shape I'd trade in a heart beat. In average shape the Ford is worth about $3000-$3500 the M is worth about $900-$1200 (in my area). I would check the Ford out out very close, there has to be reason why the guy is willing to make such a one sided trade.

All the X1 means is that this tractor is made to burn gasoline.
The numbers "1 26 48" cast into the side of the transmission is the date that particular part was cast. All the major cast parts will have the date it was cast, cast into it. In most cases the year will be a letter, I = 1939 and so on.

Your "M" is a 1948 model. The X1 means it has a gasoline burning engine, as opposed to the all-fuel engine. These are awesome tractors. I don't know about Fords, so I can't comment on the trade.
