I have a 1957 tractor that runs, Im just tryinhg to figure out how to put this tractor into gear. Can anybody help?

Brycen: You need to give us a few more details. As it stands right now, one would have to question whether problem is the tractor or you.

By description take us through the proceedure of what happens when you do things like depress clutch, move shift lever, etc. Is the tractor equipped with TA?

Hey thanks for replying. When I depress the clutch petal I hear grinding in the transmission. When I pull on the gear selector lever it grinds also. I am unable to put it into gear. Please help. thanks

Brycen: Is the tractor equipped with TA as in Torque Amplifier. The lever for that if so equipped would be to the left side of steering colume just above the clutch pedal. There will be a network of linkage between this lever and clutch pedal. Those linkages being out of adjustment can create the problem you describe.

Your problem can also be caused by a bad pilot bearing, clutch disc sticking on shaft, could be a warped clutch disc and even a faulty presure plate.

First you make sure your adjustments are correct, and if that doesn't cure the problem, you'll probably have to split the tractor at the clutch housing. If you don't have an operator's manual, it would be best to get one. These adjustments are just about impossible without the manual. It has to be adjusted to the letter and by the book, close doesn't count with these. The operator's manual gives a diagram for this adjustment complete with directions.

Thank you very much for all of the information. This tractor was given to my father not running. I got it to run just now need to get it to move and ensure that the PTO works. Once again thank you very much for all you help. It is equipped with the TA. Do you know of any websites that show linkages? or only the book has it?

Brycen: I've seen countless inquiries here at YT about that adjustment, and the only advice I've ever seen is get an operator's manual. No one would ever publish what your looking for on the net, it's copytight material. Binder Books have those rights and indeed still sell those.
