On the bottom section of the grill on a Super A, right below the hole where the crank goes in, is a small hole, half inch wide maybe. On mine it is rusted out and nothing there.

Was there something suppose to be there, like a crank support?

Tx: Well, daylight came here in SW ON as it usually does, I went to my shop and discovered I was wrong, but also partly right.

I decided since I was out there, may as well look at SA, 130 and 140. I knew they were all different as grill is different distance from radiator on all 3.

The 130 is as I described in my earlier post except the part is longer than SA as the grill is about 2" further from radiator. The main difference in these two is the tab the grill bottom bolts to is turned down on 130 and up on SA. To compensate for this the flat section coming out to grill on SA is bent down about 25 degrees, whereas the 130 part is completely 90 degree bends. The 140 is completely different as grill has a flat bottom and the part goes straight down with a 90 degree bend to match bottom of grill. We think of these tractors being the same, but in actual fact there are differences. This might help with some of the confusion. I know my SA and 130 are original, I believe the 140 is as well.

Tx: If you go to one of the aftermarket sellers of parts, either catalogue or online, you will see what that part should look like. I've seen it online, don't remember the exact site.

Without looking I believe all bends in that are 90 degree, thus making all surfaces either parallel or perpendicular. I know the one on my Super A is as new. I'm not going to remove the sheet metal for a photo. However when it comes daylight around here, I will have a look, and if it's different from what I said, I will come back.

Go to the parts and pieces link on the side of this page and go back 3 or 4 pages and you will see what you are missing (I think(.

That's a bolt hole. There is supposed to be a grill support piece behind it.

By the grill "support piece" we are talking about the piece that the crank goes thru and the front slopes down at about a 45 degree angle for about 3 inches and then turns back up? I think mine is broke off at the top.

Well, now it all comes to light. I either have to have that one fixed or get a new one.

Thanks CNKS

Super-TX, the part of your bracket that is bent up is suppose to be flat and the bend below the two bolt holes is a 90 degree bend.Where you feel the raged edge a piece that is broken off bends down and has a threaded hole to hold the bottom part of your grill (thats the hole under crank access hole in bottom front of grill)

Maybe I can get a picture of my bracket tomorrow.

I think that's right. Although I have had all that apart I had to look in my parts book to remember what it looked like. The rear bolts vertically to the steering gear housing, then 90 degree horizontal turn, then 90 degree vertical turn down, then the angle you referred to. The crank goes through the front and back vertical part.

third party image

I looked at three differant tractors and all the "Starting Crank Brackets" were a little differant.

If my image works you can see exactly what I am talking about. It bolts on just as I am holding it and you can see the angle and then the tip that flips back up. I know the tip is broken off because I can feel the jaged edge. I also believe it is bent in a little, probly when it got broke.

I believe the 45 degree angle down is correct tho. It cant come straight out because it would be in the way of the crank.

Heres the url of the image just in case the link doenst work.

The front angled part makes a 90? degree up turn and has a nut welded to it. It looks to me like the piece with the nut was broken off on yours and someone tried to curve it up but did not drill the hole. On the Super A-1, and likely the 130 that Hugh mentions there is a spacer (piece of tube or pipe) between the nut and the grill, as the grills are different. All you have to do is drill a hole, weld on a nut, bend it properly and put a spacer between the hole and the grille.

I looked at two of the crank support/grill connectors I have. One is bent down about 45 deg and I believe it was bent in a collision. The other is straight out in horizontal and works good for bolting the grill. I believe the part that sticks out needs to be horizontal so the grill bolt can be started.
