To adjust the brakes, my IT Manual says "obtain the correct pedal free travel of 1 1/8 - 1 3/8 inches measured at top of rear frame cover." What is the "top of rear frame cover"?
Not knowing what else it could be, I measured it from the pedal to the foot rest, doubt that is right but seems to work. Also I could not tighten the jam nut on one side, can that be anything else but stripped?
Thanks for reading and any help.
Jim

You are right, I took it apart and your bolt size is correct. Bolt was stripped, went to town bought a new bolt, actually longer and it didn't have enough threads. Cut longer threads on the new bolt, cut it off to the right length, and wala - works just fine. I am tickeled that I fixed something on this tractor with your help and only $1.75, and I have the three new nuts left as they were too wide.

Glad you got it fixed. Some things are simple, a lot aren't. I sometimes have the same problem with hardware store bolts -- not enough threads.

I guess I wasn't clear. I can turn the nut with no problem, but it will not tighten.

On my Super H (300U may or may not be the same) I think that is nothing more than a 3/8 24 NF bolt and 3 nuts, don't know the length, you should be able to replace it, unless I'm missing something.

Probably referring to the row crop, your specs are likely correct as the brakes are similar . I looked in my 460U's operators manual, and for some reason clutch and brake adjustments are not mentioned. As to the nut, the threads could be stripped, but it is more likely rusted in place. I have been able to get most similar things loose by soaking with penetrant and trying to turn both ways. Best to remove the shaft and clean the threads on either side with a bench grinder first, then concentrate on the nut. Some people use heat.
